Biography of Dr. Leslie Jarmon

Dr. Leslie Jarmon is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin where she has designed and taught graduate courses since 1998. She is a leader in the university’s entry into virtual world environments, specifically Second Life (SL), and she has published research and presented at numerous conferences including Best Practices in Education in SL, the American Sociological Association, and the New Media Consortium Symposium on Creativity. Dr. Jarmon’s current research focuses on virtual embodiment issues and on virtual environments as new sites for collaboration and communities of learners on an international scale. She is a co-founder of the Educators Coop in Second Life, a 3-D virtual residential community of interdisciplinary educators, researchers, and librarians from around the world (www.educatorscoop.org <https://www.educatorscoop.org> ). Jarmon served as Community Outreach Officer for the Science, Technology, & Society (STS) Program and as Coordinator for the STS Civic Forum on the Societal Implications of Nanotechnology.
